Steve Anthoney co-founded Northcross Capital in 2005 and has over 25 years of experience in the short-term fixed income markets in trading, sales and management roles Steve was head of JP Morgan’s market leading ECP business from 1996 until 2004 which was recognised with the IFR House of the Year award in 2004. His product experience includes ECP, USCP, CD’s, FX Forwards, FRN’s, short term bonds, MTN’s, Futures and OIS. As desk head he was responsible for setting and achieving planned revenue targets, running short-term interest rate risk, managing priority borrower and investor relationships, participation in origination and investor marketing, overseeing the control environment and developing JPM’s electronic trade platforms on Tradeweb and Bloomberg . Prior to the ECP desk Steve worked on the Fixed Income Repo desk for two years and for 7 years in JPM’s IT department in a variety of roles developing systems for front office fixed income users. Steve has a BSc Hons in Maths and Computer Science from the University of Kent at Canterbury .
Can Bitirim – Partner
Can Bitirim co-founded Northcross Capital in 2005 and has over 30 years experience across a broad range of credit, Short Term Interest Rate and capital market products as a trader and a manager. Until 2005 he was Head of Commerzbank London Interest Rate Trading and Asset & Liability Management (ALM). Prior to this role he was a Managing Director within Deutsche Bank Global Markets. He worked at Deutsche Bank for nearly six years with various responsibilities including Regional Head of Money Markets/Repo London and latterly Global Head of Short Term Cash Trading. Prior to Deutsche, he worked for CIBC - New York , where he traded and managed the bank funding books. Prior to being in NY Can worked for CIBC in London, beginning as a trader on the London Stock Exchange, progressing through to bond, asset swap and credit trading and into foreign exchange and finance. He began his career at the stockbrokers Scrimigeour Kemp Gee & Son.
Jason Van Praagh – Partner
Jason Van Praagh co-founded Northcross Capital in 2005 and has over 25 years of experience in the global short-term interest rate markets. Prior to Northcross Capital he was Managing Director, Global Head of Treasury Sales with Rabobank International. Jason’s role encompassed global responsibility for customer relationship management, product distribution, research and client advisory services. Before this, Jason was the Head of Short-term Interest Rate Markets for Rabobank International – London branch. His responsibilities included trading, product management and sales in money markets, repo, securities lending, interest rate derivatives, FX forwards and precious metals. Jason also represented Rabobank on a variety of industry bodies during his 7 years with the firm. Before joining Rabobank Jason spent 4 years in the Money Market/Repo division of Deutsche Bank AG. This included postings in Singapore as Head of Money Market/Repo, Tokyo as Co-head of Repo and London as Repo dealer. Prior to this he worked for the Australia & New Zealand Banking Group in his home city of Melbourne , Australia .
Dina Noelle – Investor Relations & Business Development
Dina Noelle has over 25 years of experience in repo, securities financing and treasury markets. Prior to joining Northcross in 2012 Dina was with Rabobank International in London for 10 years, most recently as Head of Interbank and Financial Market Sales. This role encompassed client relationship management, distribution development and product sales for Money Market Deposits, CD’s, CP, ABCP, Repo, Securities Lending, Foreign Exchange and Interest Rate Derivatives. Prior to this Dina worked in trading and sales in the Money Market/Repo arena at Swiss Bank Corporation in Sydney and at Goldman Sachs International in London.
Jonathan Johnstone – Portfolio Manager
Jonathan Johnstone has over 20 years of experience in repo and securities financing markets covering trading and client relationship management. Prior to joining Northcross Capital in 2017 he was a Director in equity financing and liquidity management for Royal Bank of Scotland and (following the sale of the business) in equity financing and derivative sales at BNP Paribas. During this 5 year period Jonathan’s responsibilities included managing liquidity, financing the equity capital markets business through trading repo, stock loan and equity derivatives and building key client relationships with pension funds, asset managers and other non-bank financial institutions. Prior to this Jonathan spent 15 years in various fixed income securities lending and repo trading roles, including 11 years running the BNY Mellon International Fixed Income trading book where he managed a team of traders and spearheaded product development and client relationship management.
Alan Barclay – Portfolio Manager
Alan Barclay joined Northcross Capital in 2017 and has more than 15 years of market experience spanning Securities Finance, Repo, Collateral Management, Prime Services and Treasury. Before joining Northcross Alan was Managing Director and European Head of Securities Finance Portfolio Management at The Bank of New York Mellon in London where he built and established the Bank’s EMEA Principal Securities Finance Desk. Prior to his 4 years at BNYM Alan spent 8 years at Barclays Capital where his primary role included both Trading and Business Development on the Equity Secured Funding Desk. Alan is a CFA Charter holder and has an MSci Hons in Pure Mathematics from the University of Birmingham.
Chris Sanders - Business Development Analyst
Chris Sanders joined Northcross Capital in 2018 from Investec Asset Management, where he was working on the launch of a new fund range. Chris spent 3 years at Russell Investments in the Fund Operations team. At Russell he was responsible for the front-to-back operational activity across their UCITS and non UCITS funds domiciled in multiple jurisdictions. After graduating Chris joined Swisscanto Funds Centre where he spent 5 years performing a several roles in the custody and settlements teams. Chris’s first experience in finance was a one-year internship at Mizuho International in London on the equity and derivatives trading desk before university.
David St.Clare Nelson – General Counsel
David St.Clare Nelson has over 30 years of industry experience and is a leading authority on trading documentation specialising in the Global Master Repurchase Agreement (“GMRA”), Global Securities Lending Master Agreement (“GMSLA”) and ISDA Master Agreement (“ISDA”). David’s expertise also covers Prime Brokerage agreements, Derivatives documentation and Investment Management agreements. During his years in the City David has worked for some of the biggest names in finance, including Lehman Brothers, Deutsche Bank, Citadel, Prudential, Mitsubishi UFJ, Credit Suisse and Wells Fargo. He was also a member of the drafting committee for the GMRA 1995 and GMRA 2000 and for the GMSLA 2010. David read law at the University of Bristol and was called to the Bar in 1985.
Matthew Warhaftig – Commercial & Operations Manager
Matthew Warhaftig joined Northcross Capital in 2019 and has over 15 years of financial services experience. Matthew’s roles have covered all aspects of Global Banking, delivering major change programmes and as COO in financial markets. Prior to joining Northcross, Matthew was a Director at NatWest Markets and Royal Bank of Scotland where he spent 10 years in a number of senior leadership positions. These included, COO of RBS’s Money Markets and Repo businesses through an intense period of change and regulatory reform. He has a wealth of experience in operational improvements, business development, organisation transformation, and brings an entrepreneurial drive and energy as Northcross continues to grow.
Trevor Brown - Senior Financial Consultant
Trevor Brown joined Northcross in 2019 as a Senior Financial Consultant. He is Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales with more than 30 years of accounting, tax and financial services experience. Trevor started his career in the 1980s at Arthur Andersen and spent nearly 15 years in the tax department of Salomon Brothers (latterly Citigroup), most recently as European Tax Director. He left Citigroup at the height of the dot-com boom to establish a search engine promotion business and then to co-found Throgmorton UK, an outsourcing company providing accountancy and other professional services to the SME financial services sector. Throgmorton was acquired by Capita Plc in 2014. Along with his commitment to Northcross, Trevor is an Ambassador for The Change Foundation, an award winning charity which makes positive change in the lives of disadvantaged young people through the power of sport and dance.
Peter Eisenhardt - Senior Regulatory Consultant
Peter Eisenhardt joined Northcross in 2019 as a Senior Regulatory Consultant. He is currently Secretary General at International Council of Securities Associations and has over 30 years of financial services experience. Peter has held a number of senior Money Market positions including 10 years at J.P. Morgan and 7 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. In 2015 Peter co-authored a book for the Actuarial Society of South Africa and now focuses his time looking at financial regulation and working directly with financial regulators.
Richard Smither, Client & Risk Manager
Richard joined Northcross in 2020 and has over 25 years of experience in risk management and client relationship roles from major European & North American investment banks. Immediately prior to Northcross, Richard was Head of Risk and Portfolio Pricing for Barclays Prime Brokerage business for the EMEA region from 2015-2020. In this role Richard was responsible for managing the day to day risk for Barclays Prime Finance hedge fund and institutional client base across a multi-asset financing platform. The position also encompassed managing key stakeholder relationships and delivering structured financing solutions to clients. Before Barclays, Richard was the Global Head of Prime Services risk at Bank of Nova Scotia from 2012-2015. Richard transitioned into this role from Daiwa Capital Markets, where he was Head of Synthetic Prime Brokerage Risk, as a result of their acquisition of Daiwa's synthetic prime brokerage platform by Scotia. Earlier, Richard spent 7 years at Lehman Brothers International Europe in various Equity Prime and Credit risk roles, prior to which he held similar risk roles at both Deutsche Bank and HypoVereinsbank after beginning his career in credit at both NatWest Markets and NatWest Bank.
Chasham Mitra, Programme Manager
Chasham Mitra has over 20 years of industry experience spanning front office, legal and advisory roles. During his seven years at Morgan Stanley, he led the firm’s global secured funding initiative where he was responsible for structuring, marketing and execution of fixed income, equities and commodities assets. He also established two structured note programmes. Prior to that, he was a lawyer in the Asian real estate group at Lehman Brothers, Tokyo. He originally qualified as a solicitor at Linklaters. More recently Chasham has acted as a consultant on structured finance transactions, Brexit and on regulatory and governance framework initiatives.
